Greetings Ardagh Bluffs’ Families,
Welcome to the month of October! September has come and gone quickly and we have had a busy start to the school year! During the month of September our school community worked together to raise funds for the Terry Fox Foundation followed by our annual Terry Fox National School Run Day on Thursday, September 26th. Thank you to all families who supported this cause by donating or participating in the run with our students. Our total of funds raised will be finalized soon and we’re looking forward to our wrap up assembly. As a school, we also recognized Orange Shirt Day on Friday, September 30th.
As we begin the month of October, there are many important days to recognize. October is ADHD Awareness Month, Dyslexia Awareness Month, German Heritage Month, Canadian Islamic Heritage Month, Latin American Heritage Month and Women’s History Month. School staff have access to a wide range of materials to support teaching and learning about these months of recognition in their classrooms. Everyone is eager to see the beginning of food days, which begin on October 7th. Orders can be placed through School Cash Online. Our Picture Day for individual photos will take place on October 8th, with class photos scheduled on November 27th, which is also Picture Retake Day. We’re looking forward to borrowing the school board’s Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada Giant Floor Map in mid-October. The map shows the location of Indigenous communities, residential schools, reserves, and more. There was a wealth of information and a diversity of stories and voices displayed on the map which will assist students in understanding the past, present, and future of Indigenous Peoples in Canada. Please be sure to say thank you to our Bus Drivers on October 23rd for Bus Driver Appreciation Day. We will also have a Spirit Day for those wishing to celebrate Halloween on October 31st. Students may wear costumes or Black and Orange if they would like to participate.
We’re excited to welcome everyone to our school’s Open House, which will be held on Thursday, October 10th from 4:30-6:00 p.m. This is an opportunity to visit the school and see your child’s classroom. For everyone’s convenience, our School Council has booked 2 food trucks for this event - Around the World in 80 Tacos and Sugar Beach Sweets and Treats. We’ll also have the Scholastic Book Fair in the library, which helps us to gain credits to acquire books and furniture for our school’s library.
Our School Council has been hard at work throughout the month of September. The 2023-2024 Council had their final meeting on September 25th. Our election and first meeting of the 2024-2025 Council will take place on October 2nd. Please watch for various fundraisers on School Cash Online including: Fresh From the Farm, the Halloween Dance-a-Thon, our Pumpkin Patch, hot lunch days, and popcorn days. Please take a moment to visit our school’s website to review the 2023-2024 School Council Annual Report that outlines all of the amazing work council performed last year.
We would like to extend our appreciation to our families for your patience and support with this year’s return to school and throughout the school reorganization process.
Wishing everyone a safe and learning filled month,
Ms. Robinson and Mr. Kirwan
