Greetings Ardagh Bluffs’ Families,

Welcome to the month of October!  September has come and gone quickly and we have had a fantastic start to the school year.

During the month of September our school community worked together to raise funds for the Terry Fox Foundation followed by our annual Terry Fox National School Run Day on Thursday, September 21st.  Thank you to all families who supported this cause by donating or participating in the run with our students.  Our final total of funds raised will be finalized soon.  As a school, we also recognized Orange Shirt Day on Friday, September 29th.  This year we were fortunate to borrow the school board’s Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada Giant Floor Map. The map shows the location of Indigenous communities, residential schools, reserves, and more. There was a wealth of information and a diversity of stories and voices displayed on the map which assisted students in understanding the past, present, and future of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

As we begin the month of October, there are many important days to recognize.  October is Canadian Autism Awareness Month, Dyslexia Awareness Month, 2SLGBTQIA+ History Month, German Heritage Month, Islamic Heritage Month, Latin American Heritage Month and Women’s History Month.  School staff have access to a wide range of materials to support teaching and learning about these months of recognition in their classrooms. We’re looking forward to celebrating World Teachers Day on October 5th.  Please be sure to say thank you to our Bus Drivers on October 19th for Bus Driver Appreciation Day.  We will have a Spirit Day for those wishing to celebrate Halloween on October 31st.  This month we have also been holding a variety of safety practices including Lockdown Drill Practice as well as three Fire Drills and an Evacuation Drill. On October 11th, we have scheduled Picture Day.  Please note that class photos will be held at a later date on November 30th.

We’re excited to welcome everyone to our school’s Open House, which will be held on Thursday, October 5th from 4:30-6:00 p.m.  This is an opportunity to visit the school and see your child’s classroom. We have pizza available for sale on School Cash Online and School Council has organized for some food trucks to be onsite as well for everyone’s convenience that night.  We’ll also have the Scholastic Book Fair in the library, which helps us to gain credits to acquire books for our school’s library.

Our School Council has been hard at work throughout the month of September.  The 2022-2023 Council had their final meeting on September 20th.  Our election and first meeting of the 2023-2024 Council will take place on October 4th. Please watch for various fundraisers on School Cash Online including: Fresh From the Farm, hot lunch days, and popcorn days.

We would like to extend our appreciation to our families for your tremendous support with this year’s return to school and throughout the school reorganization process.

Wishing everyone a safe and learning filled month,

Ms. Robinson and Mr. Kirwan
